THINGS TO DO IN MY TOWN FOR (ALMOST) FREE MEME from the lovely Ingrid. Here are the rules (because it wouldn't be a meme without rules):
1. List (at least) five things to do for free in your city or town, not just well publicised touristy things, but things YOU might do too!
2. Write it with a visitor in mind.
3. Tag three people* - extra fun if they live somewhere you'd like to know better or you're going to sometime soon.
4. If you're anonymous/coy about where you live, choose another town or city that you know.
Okay number 1 - As a family we love to spend a Sunday walking through the Botanical gardens ending up at the Art Centre market. You can browse here without spending any money of course, but be warned there are some serious temptations and the food court has some fantastic choices from around the world. My favourite has to be the felafel's!
number 2 - the museum is a great place to go, I know that it is touristy, but the kids love it there. They do ask for a donation. The art gallery which is just around the corner from the museum is also donation only and they have a great area for children to do crafts.
number 3 - We love the beach, our favourite is Sumner. It is pretty small, but there is a great cave to be explored and if you walk to the end of the esplanade there is also a brilliant park with paddling pool for the warmer months. So this is basically 2 for 1. Of course not totally free as the day would not be complete without ice cream.......
number 4 - Bottle lake forest is a great place for walking and bike rides. This is a favourite with Julian and Kalem as they love to go biking there, you should see the muddy state they come home in.......
number 5 - Christchurch is a great place for walking/hiking, the port hills have some great tracks. This is something that we want to do more of as a family, but with little legs that tire easily, we may have to wait a while. There are absolutely loads of walks to choose from with some stunning scenery.
Righto ..... I am going to send this meme on to:
Emma from Lavenderhouse

and Janelle from Heart Felt

Your fairy is called Tangle Saturnwand
She is a trouble maker.
She lives at the bottom of tangled gardens and in hedgerows.
She is only seen when the seer holds a four-leafed clover.
She wears tangled dresses of multicoloured petals. She has delicate pale pink wings like a cicada.

Discovery Centre at the museum is always good for rainy days and cooped up children :)My little ones are free. Me and the big one are $2ea so not quite free but just about.
Other other free favourite is the library. Especially NB and combine with a walk down the pier
We've done numbers 1, 2 and 3 - pre-children! Wewere there when the comedy festival was on. The botanical gardens are great and I'm in total agreement about the felafel at the Arts Centre market. We also had souvlaki in a little place in town which was awesome! The only thing that marred our visit was that the Marlborough under 18s touch team were staying in the same accommodation as us - way too much booze and testosterone flying around! Cheers for the tag I'll have to get my thinking cap on - didn't know what a meme was until today! x
Thank-you for the meme, I havn't had one before! I'm all choked up! Enjoyed reading yours. xx
